Saltwater Coho

Simply put, when the Coho's are running in August we believe we have some of the very finest saltwater fishing in the world, on some days possibly the best. We fish off the capes to the east and west of Chignik and the numbers of fish and opportunity to watch 30 to 70 silvers in a school attack all the gear dangling only five feet down in the water is AWESOME!

Watching all five rods hook up at the same time is astounding. It may sound a little far fetched but we experienced this a number of times this last year. On one trip we hooked over seventy fish in two and one half hours. Averaging nine pounds and ranging up to eighteen, these silvers light up the water and air while making wild long distance runs.

Not to worry if one comes off, released early, jiggle your rod and chances are another one will pick it up before you can get your lure back to the boat. Airborne silves are quite a sight in the saltwater, some jumping straight out of the water four or five feet high, others jumping across the top up to eight or ten feet in distance, sometimes jumping right across your buddy's line which happens to have its own twelve pound chrome bullet attached to it.

By the end of August and through September all those beautiful Coho's that got by us on the capes make their way into the local rivers. By this time, they are ready to gobble up flies, spinners, spoons, eggs, shrimp and just about anything not nailed down! The fish maintain their aggressive nature as they enter their home watershed.

Fly-fishing and spinner fishing is outstanding fun as we move back to the jet boats for this pursuit. We only fish the first two weeks of September because the weather can turn a little too rugged a little too fast.

If saltwater silvers are a fishing trip you're interested in, these beautiful bright ocean run natives are the trip of a lifetime. They fight as hard as anything out there and the action is not-stop. We make a special effort to bleed, clean and ice these frantic feeders right away and the result is a fine home pack. When these fish are cared for properly they taste as good as any salmon anywhere.

Freshwater Coho

The Chignik River is close and a fine opportunity for furious action. The fish in the system run close to a ten-pound average and there are definitely hogs in the system. An angler can certainly count on personal encounters with these hogs during a day of fishing the Chignik River. Spinners and spoons are very effective; casting to the schools of fish with a nice presentation rewards the angler with consistent hook-ups.

Fresh water silver trips need to be customized to be sure that each group understands the trip they want and can work with me to put it together in that way. The weather can start to change by the middle of September so it is important to plan carefully and be flexible.
